Introduction

One factor in this solution is the establishment of a growing shared database that is built, taking into account recognised industry standards. CDA standards will follow industry initiatives and trends and will reflect UK legislative standards as defined by the DTI. CDA strongly encourages participation from both service and oil companies in the construction and development of CDA standards and practices.

How Standards are Developed
CDA has a Standards sub-committee chaired by Richard Salway.  The sub-committee will take account of:
  • de facto standards that are in use
  • practices in similar initiatives
  • practices in other environments.

The sub-committee will be impartial in their deliberations but would expect to take representations from companies which are currently active in the area being reviewed.

The sub-committee will produce a draft standard for submission to the CDA Council which will decide whether the standard is to be mandatory or a recommended practice.

Change Control
Once a standard has been approved by the CDA Council it will issued to the members by way of the CDA website. Hard copy of the standards will be made available to companies that do not have access to the Internet.

Requests for changes to issued standards should be made through the Data Management Steering Group. These will be referred to the Chairman of Standards for action according to CDA variation procedures.
