DEAL aims to provide a full national catalogue of UKCS geosicience data, pointing users to the source of data of interest.  Through DEAL, users can access networked repositories of UKCS geoscientific data as a single unified data resource.  DEAL is a PILOT initiative sponsored by Oil & Gas UK and DECC, managed by CDA, and operated by BGS (British Geological Survey).   Oil & Gas UK is the leading representative organisation for the UK offshore oil and gas industry.  Its 84 members are companies licensed by the Government to explore for and produce oil and gas in UK waters and those who form any part of the industry's supply chain. More at www.oilandgas.org.uk   BGS (British Geological Survey) is a public sector organisation responsible for advising the UK government on all aspects of geoscience as well as providing impartial geologial advise to industry, academia and the public.  The BGS is a component organisation of the Natural Environment Research Council (NERC), which is the UK's leading body for basic, strategic and applied research and monitoring in the environmental sciences.  The NERC was founded by Royal Charter in 1865 and report to the UK Government's Office of Science and Technology under the Department of Trade and Industry.  More at www.bgs.ac.uk  PILOT is the successor body to the Oil and Gas Industry Task Force (OGITF) and was established in January 2000 to secure the long-term future of the oil and gas industry in the UK.  PILOT is made up of twenty-three key Government representatives and recognised leaders from the industry.
